Marshall JTM45

Magic - probably the definition of a JTM45 cranked to about 7. One of the most iconic amps of all times and rightfully so. This particular amp was composed from several different parts and vendors around the globe. It took a lot of time to gather everything but the result was worth it.

One of the most important elements of the JTM45 are the transformers. For this build i chose a set of Classictone Power & Output transformers and choke. These transformers are built the old way using paper bobbin and sound exceptional.

After staking the turrets to the turretboard according to the jtm45 layout, i populated it with Allen Bradley NOS carbon comp resistors in selected places and Sozo mustard vintage capacitors. I wanted to ensure the best tonal result and that's why i used what i considered best for the rest of the build: alpha pots and F&T filter caps. Much attention was given to the grounding scheme and lead dress to keep the amp completely hum-free.

I used a push-pull pot to engage and disengage the bright cap in the treble channel. This is particularly useful when using pedals - the sound can become harsh when an overdrive pedal is used and the bright cap is engaged. The bright cap on the other hand makes the clean sound more shimmery and bright, so it is useful to have a switch to toggle it.

I also installed a master volume to help tame the amp when necessary. The type i chose was what i consider the best sounding and most transparent master volume design - the LarMar PPIMV. You can see the master volume pot in place of one of the speaker jacks in the back of the amp.
